1.2 Roots/artivism

The battle of algier -English -
The Battle of Algiers recomposes scenes from the 1965 film of the same name by Italian director Gillo Pontecorvo. The original film is a reenactment of the Algerian nationalist struggle leading to independence from France in 1962. The success of the actual battle for independence has been attributed to the nationalists' organization: a pyramidal structure of self-organized cells. Lafia and Lin recomposed the film along a cell-based structure, in which French Authority and the Algerian Nationalist cells are represented by stills from the film and move according to different rule sets. When cells of different camps intersect, they trigger video cells displaying each side's tactics (as depicted in the film) according to the rules of the system. License: copyright [see]

Cartografia Resistente -Italiano-

Stich and split -English / Français / Castellano-
Explores the joint, the interstices, between these two registers which might be considered opposed, science and fiction, and their reciprocal contamination. Science fiction as a zone of tension that amalgamates imaginary and real, utopia and dystopia, flesh and machine; the use of intrusion, incongruity and discrepancy as a system of resistance and a tool for questioning the present. Science fiction is not an oracle that can predict the future more or less exactly, but a critical, inventive, cross-genre/gender and cross-disciplinary discourse on the body, identity and contemporary territories. Slashgeo
Our Story

Slashgeo is a bridge across space and time to gather the community of the geospatially interested.

Slashgeo wants to be the best user-friendly and user-driven online resource for news and discussions about GIS, Remote Sensing and everything geospatial.

Slashgeo is open. Free to read. Free for anyone to share thoughs and ideas. Its content comes from the users, you. Slashgeo is slash-based, meaning the content is filtered by members so only the most valuable tidbits reach the casual reader.

Slashgeo is a dream come true. It is managed by Spatial Enlightenment, an independant non-profit organization. It is mostly voluntary work. Historically, Slashgeo is the sibling of Applied-GIS-RS, a non-technical international mailing list, that we created in summer 2002 that has more than a thousand members. In december 2005, three months after its launch, slashgeo.org came to replace SlashGISRS.org, our former name.

CartoNet
carto.net is a place for cartography on the internet. students, graphical artists and internet people often work on quite interesting projects, but those are not well known to the wide public or are lost somewhere on not so significant pages.

carto.net offers these people the opportunity to share their ideas and projects at the right adress: in the middle of the net for cartographers. so the contents of carto.net are clear: cartography and its actors. here you will find any kind of topic related to cartography or geographical information. metadata and information about the author are always available.

the interconnection between the project, the metadata and the author gives a clear view to any orderer or enables to find colleagues. as visible on the start page, you can link to the projects or the authors directly. basically there is no project (homepage) without cartographic content. yet there is not much to tell about contents due to the short time the server has been online.
