Action Research Network: Euromovements

The Action Research Network is a space for the experiment of activist research applied to the most recent confluence process of social movements at Europe and particularly to the ESF and surroundings process. Its aim is to systematize the information and knowledge generated by this process to create tools and useful guides for social transformation in Europe.
This first newsletter aims to spread information and very synthetically the recent project’s outcomes and to invite for further involvements in the Euromovements network. To see a more specific and explained presentation of the project you always can visit the web site section.

Who is developing it?

Also the project aims to generate a confluence space on activist research at Europe, for that the research is developed by a network of groups in different places in Europe. If you like to see the specific groups actually involved in Euromovements, go here!

Euromovements is an open project. Do you like to join the project? Do it writing to: info@euromovements.info

Contents until now developed

The first contents we started to develop are mainly maps and directories. They are experiments in archiving data, systematizing knowledge and producing communication in the framework of the new movements in Europe.

The Directory of the Organizations and collectives which participated in the ESF and surroundings

In our website you’ll find a directory – organized by region, type of organization, theme of action – of the more than 5000 organizations which participated in the ESF and surroundings from Florence (2002) to Paris (2003) to London (2004). This first version of the directory is consultable by a search engine. If you like to visit it, go here!

An Inquiry on the Networks within and around ESF

We started a survey about the transnational networks developed within and around the ESFs. Until now we identified more than one hundred networks and circulated a questionnaire among them. To visit the database of the networks, go here! To inscribe another network go to the networks-survey.

To participate in this part of the project, please write to: info@euromovements.info
To read the report on this first inquiry, go here.

A Directory of collectives, experiences and searchers on Activist Research

We made a directory of around 100 searchers and experiences of activist research and create a e-list as a multilingual space for the exchange and reflection on activist research issues. Visit the first version of Directory of activist research.

A Map and Chronology of European Mobilizations

In an international process of social movements confluence a huge amount of information is developed. We believe that an exercise of synthesis by the production of visualizations and maps can help to orient and metabolize them. For that we are developing several experiments of mapping.
One is a chronological map of mobilizations in Europe. This project is still under development, but you can see a first example here.

To see the planned ongoing work and to join it, please visit!
We ahve created a mailing list to exchange and debate aorund those questions, please register here, chronos@lists.euromovements.info

The Euromovements newsletters

Also we accompanied this first stage of the research promoting two Newsletters as materials for engaging debates and for the exchange of ideas.

In December 2004, after the London ESF we collected a wide range of articles and reflections on the ESF process and its challenges for the future. To see it

On May 2005 we finally spread a newsletter with a rich collection of articles and presentation of experiences on activist research and new social movements. To see it.

Seminars at the Mediterranean Social Forum

The Mediterranean Social Forum (FSMED) will take place at Barcelona from the 16th to the 19th of June 2005. The Action Research Network: Euromovements, in collaboration with other groups, is organizing a debate on activist research and social movements on Friday 17 at 14h in the framework of the programmed FSMED activities, and a debate on the future strategy and the relation between the social forums.
